Bathroom Remodel Tips

How to Prepare for a Bathroom Remodel

Going through a bathroom remodel can be somewhat of a challenge, especially in a busy household where the occupants are used to having a master bathroom of their own. That being said, if you know what to expect and do some forward planning, organizing, and scheduling ahead of time, you can make the process easier. The following are some important things that you can do to make the process go more smoothly.

Confirm Lead Times

The first step is to ensure the remodel does not take any longer than it needs to. A construction schedule is often like a house of cards, as the subcontractors, such as carpenters, plumbers, cabinetmakers, tile installers, electricians, etc., will be blocking out specific times to work on your remodel. So just one late arrival will often throw the entire remodel off schedule.

Talk to Your Contractor About the Construction Process

Make sure that your wellness is a priority during the remodeling project. Speak to your contractor about dust control, and ask them if there will be plastic sheeting put up, and whether the crew will clean up after themselves every day. Ask how they will protect the floor and carpeting that travel along the route to the bathroom. Determine where the staging area is going to be when the materials arrive, and prep this area by making sure it is clear and the floors and any remaining furniture are protected.

Schedule Everyone’s Bathroom Routines

Determine what everyone’s bathroom habits are. Mornings are generally busy, so some people will have to get up a little earlier than normal to allow everyone the time and hot water that they will need.
